The Great Buddha of Kamakura, Kotokuin

The Great Buddha of Kamakura is famous spot of Kamakura.
This Great Buddha of Kamakura is in Kotokuin temple.
Kotoku-in is a temple of the Jodo sect, the founder of the Honen superior.
However, some details of its history are unknown.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura is 11.312m high.
The height including the pedestal is 13.35 meters.
Compared to nara’s Great Buddha and its height, it is about 3.6m lower, but its dignified face attracts many people.
And the appearance of sitting on a place without a roof attracts people.
He is still fascinated by the appearance, but when it was first completed, it was covered with gold leaf.
I think the Golden Buddha made a strong impression on ancestor.

By all means, please see the melancholy and dignified the Great Buddha.

If you worship the Great Buddha in Kamakura from outside, you should definitely visit its inside.

The interior of the Great Buddha of Kamakura is hollow due to its structure.
This cavity is in the womb.

Inside the Great Buddha. It is around the Big Buddha’s chest. You can see the folds in the clothes.

The way to create the Great Buddha is to first create a wooden prototype, then create the outer mold according to the prototype, then make it medium.Copper is poured between the outer type and the medium size.
To make this in order, a protrusion can be made at the joint.
If you look at this protrusion from the inside, you can see it well.

There is a reception behind the Great Buddha, and you go up the stairs from the pedestal.
The passageway is narrow and there is only one passage, so it’s a bit hard for people to pass each other.Everyone walks while yielding.
Your feet are also dim, so be careful.
After going up the narrow stairs, I arrived at the inner center.

The scenery I looked up inside. The center is around the neck. Behind the hole is your head.

Outside light is shining through a small window overhead. This window is a hole to let out the soil that was put in to support the mold in the process of making the Great Buddha.

There is a little light inside from this top hole.
From inside, you can see the folds of the clothes and the joint between the trunk and head.
I see, I’m impressed.
If I think about it carefully, I’m in a national treasure.
What a valuable experience!

Fee to enter the interior of the Great Buddha statue is 20 yen.
By all means, if you visit the Great Buddha of Kamakura, let’s enter the interior of it.
